Jon Batiste and Suleika Jaouad’s Anthropologie Collection Is Made for Holiday Hosting

Inspired by Tunisia, New Orleans and the couple’s Brooklyn home, the collection is built around gathering people.

If you host every year, you probably already have the plates, the glasses, and a go-to serving bowl, so anything new has to earn its place on the table. The pieces in Anthropologie Home’s new holiday collection with writer and artist Suleika Jaouad and her husband, the award-winning musician, composer, and actor Jon Batiste, come with a story behind them, which is a good reason to make room.

The collection draws on the couple’s creative pursuits, cultural backgrounds, home, and shared love of bringing people together. The designs bring in the colors and patterns of Tunisia, a nod to Suleika’s roots, along with the saturated hues of New Orleans and the deep blues and greens of the natural world. Music runs through the collection too, from instrument-shaped ornaments to a custom record player, and the couple wanted pieces that look a little irregular and handmade rather than perfectly polished.

“We wanted to create objects that felt personal to us and told a story, but that could be integrated into someone else’s life and become part of their own rituals,” the couple shared in a press release. “We wanted each piece to feel like the beginning of a story—something you can make your own.”

Those influences make the collection a natural fit for the holidays, and these are the ten pieces we’re adding to cart for hosting.

For the Bar

Glass Decanter, $38. The hand-blown decanter comes in a deep sapphire blue, in line with the blues and greens the couple drew from nature, and it holds more than two bottles of wine, making it practical for a full table.

Wine Glasses, Set of 4, $80. These hand-blown glasses have slightly irregular shapes, jewel-toned color, and delicate metallic edging, so each one looks a little different, which is the handmade look the couple described.

Stainless Steel Ice Bucket, $148. The rounded bucket has a softly brushed finish and a faceted base, and it looks good on a bar cart or kitchen counter whether or not there’s ice in it.

For the Table

Stoneware Nut Bowl, $16. At $16, this hand-painted stoneware bowl is the most affordable pick on the list. It comes in blue, dark green, and tan, and it needs to be washed by hand.

Appetizer Utensils, Mixed Set of 4, $58. Made from stainless steel, zinc, and brass, the set of four provides small serving tools for olives, cheese, and anything else you need on a snack board.

Cocktail Napkins, Set of 4, $38. The cotton napkins have a velvet border and measure six inches square, a good size for holding a drink in one hand and a bite in the other.

For the Mood

Crosley Voyager Record Player, $130. The suitcase-style player comes in dark navy with a botanical print and has a built-in speaker, so it’s small enough to sit on a bookshelf or sideboard. Music runs through the whole collection, which makes this a fitting piece to have out when people come over.

Metal Vase, $118. The chrome aluminum vase stands 10.5 inches tall, which is tall enough for a few branches or a loose bunch of flowers in the center of the table.

The Splurges

Bar Cart, $798. The tropical hardwood cart has twisted legs, brass-toned rails and casters, a deep lower shelf and a top drawer that locks with a working key. It rolls wherever the party ends up.

Piano Stool, $598. The velvet stool has a dark wood base and cascading fringe that gives it an Art Deco look, and it works as extra seating next to the record player or the bar cart when the guest list runs long.

The collection launched on October 15 and is sold exclusively at Anthropologie, online and in U.S. and U.K. stores, with prices ranging from $16 to $1,698.
