Choosing a Paint Color Just Got a Lot More Personal
Sherwin-Williams’ 2027 forecast trades a strict palette for permission to trust your own eye.
If you’ve ever stood in the paint aisle overwhelmed by a wall of swatches, Sherwin-Williams just dropped its 2027 color forecast, and for the first time, they’re not handing you one set list of colors to follow. Instead, they’ve put together three broad directions—Revive, Reignite, and Reconnect—that are meant to be mixed together instead of picked one at a time.
Here’s what that means for your own home.

Figure Out Which One Already Feels Like You
Revive is warm and a little worn in—think deep reds and browns—the kind of colors that feel like they’ve been in a family for years. Reignite is the boldest of the three, with hues that spark dopamine and encourage play. Reconnect leans into the outdoors—soft greens and warm neutrals that feel calming. Most people already know which one they’re drawn to without even thinking about it. So don’t start by looking at the forecast. Start by looking at your own closet, or whatever room in your house already feels most like you.

“We’re seeing people move away from the idea that there’s one ‘right’ way to use color,” Emily Kantz, Color Strategist and Interior Designer at Sherwin-Williams, tells The Sectional. “Instead, homeowners are looking for spaces that feel authentic to them and reflect their own experiences, personalities and lifestyles.”
You Don’t Have to Pick Just One
This is the part that makes the whole forecast worth paying attention to. You don’t need to choose Revive or Reignite and stick to it everywhere. A warm, worn-in base color works just fine with one bold accent wall from a totally different direction. “Rather than prescribing how colors should be used, we’re inviting designers, homeowners, and professional paint contractors to explore the possibilities for themselves,” says Kantz.

Try Before You Commit to a Full Room
Before you paint an entire room, order a few swatches from more than one of the three directions and tape them up somewhere you’ll actually see them for a few days. Watch how they look in the morning light and again at night. You’ll get a much better feel for what’s right than you would just staring at a paint chip in the store.
